Subject: greatest rhythm player?
bobby created his own unique style, but the greatest rhythm player is a LONG shot.
his slide playing is the worst iv'e ever heard. sounds like someone ... pulling on a cats tail.
they kicked him out of the band in 68 because his playing was so bad, but relented and let him back in.

i was 15 and rather new to partying, so i kinda had too much booze fun the night before this show and was experiencing my first ever hangover on show day.
...
it was bad / i was sick af... was considering not going to the dead show but my buddy with the tickets demanded my presence, so off we went. i really enjoyed these very early 80's dead shows before "in the dark" came out because most of the dead heads at the shows were OG's of the scene... the real hippies who were really into the dead and everything that went along with going to their shows... i got over my hangover toot-suite by toking the herb which was being freely rotated amongst the crowd at the horizon that night. such great people, such FOND memories o.O

It was so weird being at the Rosemont with jets scaring the shit out us looking like they were going slam right into the place. And trippin it was hard
...
to get that out of my mind during the show. The bunch of us had a great time partying in my brother's custom van. The show was pretty good with the highlight To Lay Me Down! The Rosemont sucked and this was in the same year that I saw them at the Uptown which was such a great place! If I had my way...

"If Bobby Weir isn't the greatest rhythm guitarist ever, I don't know who is"
I dunno, Keith Richards maybe?
Bobby's pretty good, though.
This recording ... sounds like it was made a million miles away from the band. Jerry's voice ... so tiny. I do not dig.

This was my first show too. Funny, Superior, i don't recall seeing you there. LOL
It's hard to judge it objectively, your first show is so amazingly ... different than anything before it.......
The show was good, the trip from/to Ann Arbor wasn't.

The space airplane noises were also inspired by the fact that the Horizon is in a landing pattern right next to O'hare airport. It was a new building
...
and the soundproofing was not very good so you could hear the planes landing. Bobby even mentioned it during the show.
This was my first Dead show and I had front row dead center with all of my high school friends occupying the entire row. My friend and I had camped out in front of the Horizon for 3 nights and pulled the whole front row. Not a bad way to see your first Dead show.

One of a few topical spaces (like the Earthquake or the Raven space), this one on the eve of the 40th ann. of the Pearl Harbor attack. Check out Brent
...
& Phil's airplane sound effects, complete with falling bombs. First time for me at The Rosemont, and the place seemed HUGE.

Wish I'd been at this show. The 'Estimated' has shades of stuff I heard on the 'basement tape',stuff that got cut out when they made it into 'the pizza
...
tapes'. They were really puttin in the work this evening. Bobby's got that 'chimey' sound goin the way he plays those wierd harmonic chords.
Awesome.
Awesome.
